Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing. It involves the creation of a master plate from which multiple images are made. There are many types of printmaking. This camp will focus on Relief Printing (the process of printing from a raised surface where the non image areas have been cut away) using a Linocut, Screenprinting (the process of adhering a stencil over a mesh screen material stretched tightly over a frame) using fabric, and a squeegee, and Monotype Prints (the process of painting an image onto a smooth surface and then transferring to paper) using glass /plexiglass and a printing press.
Outdoor Art Camps - "en Plein Air"
$150 per week (Note: Painting en Plein Air Camp is $120)
En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” which is a term used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Children will experience drawing and/or painting the landscape outdoors in natural light, just as the Impressionist artists did in the 19th Century. This year we are offering three different en Plein Air Camps! The Multi-Media Camp will be held at The Crossings of Colonie located in Loudonville. With its extraordinary views of meadows, wetlands, extensive wooded and wildflower areas and a 3 acre pond, this beautiful park is the perfect setting for students to paint the natural landscape. All art materials are included in price and may incorporate acrylic paint, oil pastels, chalk pastels, charcoal and watercolors. The Drawing en Plein Air Camp which will be held at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, has over 450 acres of fields, forests, and wetlands and over 10 miles of trails for exploration. Each student will be given a drawing kit consisting of various drawing tools such as pencil, charcoal and pastel. The camp will focus on Beaver Tree Trail, a 0.5 mile loop Circling Beaver Pond. This trail features scenic overlooks and close approaches to the pond, with an excellent opportunity to enjoy turtles, ducks and other aquatic wildlife; includes a 100-foot walkway over the water. There are moderate ups and downs and some stairs over a woodchip base. And finally, the Painting en Plein Air Camp will focus on painting media at four different area parks. Each day we will meet at a different park to experience the diversity of scenery boasted by each. The parks include The Crossings of Colonie, Lions Park in Niskayuna, Five Rivers in Delmar, and Halfmoon Town Park. Each has its own special scenery sure to inspire and reach our inner impressionist spirit! (Please note: There will be no camp held on the 4th of July)
